Senior Cup Winners - Haborough Tens Winners Mixed Veg

The first Harborough Rugby Tens kicked off on Good Friday April 6th 2012.

Eleven teams and a decent crowd turned out for the inaugural Harborough Tens. Two competitions - a Senior one and the Colts - ran over four hours, the bar was open all day and the afternoon ran into the evening with music in the Clubhouse. The senior Cup winners were Mixed Veg, a strong side put together by Tom and Lewis Dyke and including familiar faces like Michael Goode and Josh Purnell. They beat the Harborians, led by Leo Donnelly and including names like James Goff, Adam Blatchly and James Grant, in the final by 31 points to 7. The Senior Shield was won by South Leicester who beat Market Harborough, led by Tom Lee, in the final; and the Bowl winners were Harborough Vets who overcame George Lee's outrageously attired Boats and Hoes in the final. The Colts competition was an altogether more serious affair, played in a league format and won by Burton Colts. Second were Oakham, third Nuneaton and fourth Harborough. The Club hopes that this can be the beginning of an annual Good Friday event and that it can build in the future, to attract more clubs and provide an Easter, social alternative to weekly league rugby and the pressures it brings.
